Azerbaijan is mediating the negotiations between Türkiye and Australia regarding the organization of COP31, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev told journalists, APA reports.
“As you know, Türkiye and Australia are candidates to host COP31. In this competition between the two countries, Azerbaijan is playing the role of a mediator. Based on the mandate given to me by the President of COP29, I am mediating the negotiations between Türkiye and Australia. Last week, we had quite intensive discussions in New York. The negotiations are progressing in a positive direction, and we will witness the results in the near future. It is possible that Türkiye and Australia may co-host COP31,” said Yalchin Rafiyev.
He noted that Azerbaijan already has a strengthened strategy in its relations with African countries.
“Azerbaijan has organized government missions to more than 10 African countries this year. Delegations from various African countries have also visited Baku at different levels. The main goal is to identify new directions for political and economic relations between Azerbaijan and these countries. Our state institutions are already working in their respective fields on investment opportunities, economic and trade cooperation, and other areas. This can bring significant benefits for us. We also plan to expand our diplomatic representation in Africa in the future and gain greater support from these countries on international platforms. Additionally, we share common values with African countries and prioritize values based on international justice,” Yalchin Rafiev stated.
