"Azerbaijan faced unprecedented floods," Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Umayra Taghiyeva, said at a High-level event on Strengthening Climate Information and Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems for Increased Resilience held in Baku as part of COP29, APA reports.
She mentioned that while 147 incidents were recorded in Azerbaijan last year, the number has already reached 109 this year: "Heatwaves have also increased in Azerbaijan. Despite the rise in the number of hot days, the number of emergency medical calls has significantly decreased compared to previous periods before the public awareness. Climate change is an irreversible process. Therefore, developing Early Warning Systems is essential."
