"The Asian Development Bank plans to allocate $3.5 billion over 7 years for the development of water resources, agriculture and food sectors," Asian Development Bank President Masatsugu Asakawa said at the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Climate, Innovation and Trade Partnership ministerial meeting within the framework of COP29, APA reports.
According to him, this step will stimulate resilience and adaptation measures in the Central Asian region and countries located in the west of this region:
"The water economy of these regions is fed by rivers which water is formed from glaciers. The funds to be allocated will not only be of an investment nature. On the contrary, it is our obligation to the farmers living in this region and the population in general. The funds to be allocated will be spent on the effective use of water resources, as well as protecting the countries of the region from drought. By 2030, with the special programs we are implementing, our bank plans to allocate an additional 100 million to measures to combat climate change."
