Baku – APA. Vladimir Putin said that they are not concerned about the prospects of a war with Ukraine, APA reports. “We are not going to fight a war with the Ukrainian people. If we make this decision, we will only make it in order to protect the Ukrainian people. How can the army shoot at their own people? Who can give such an order?” Putin asked the journalist in response to a question about the possibility of war.
“We will only be able to develop and re-establish close ties with Ukraine after the situation comes back to normal and the presidential election takes place,” he said. Asked whether they recognize the government headed by Arseny Yatseniuk or not, he said: “Three days ago I gave instruction to the government to contact with the Ukrainian government to avoid breach of economic relations. Naryshkin is contacting with Turchynov and Mevedev with Yatseniuk.”
Russian President underlined that they would not recognize the elections to be held under the current conditions of "terror". Asked whether they would recognize the elections scheduled for May 25, Putin said: "If they are held under such terror as we see now, then we won't.”
Vladimir Putin said they are not considering a possibility of annexing Crimea. “It is up to local people to decide,” he said.
Asked about the possible sanctions of the West, President said the sides going to impose sanctions should think about its consequences.
“Especially in the modern world, where everyone and everything is interconnected,” he said.
