The voting process in the referendum on the adoption of the new draft Constitution in Kazakhstan has concluded, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Astana reports.
All polling stations across the country that opened at 07:00 local time closed at 20:00.
According to the Central Referendum Commission of Kazakhstan, more than 12 million citizens eligible to participate in the referendum were included in the voter lists. To organize the voting, more than 10,000 polling stations operated both inside the country and abroad. Some of them were established at diplomatic missions in various countries to allow Kazakh citizens living abroad to vote.
In order to ensure transparency of the voting process, 359 international observers and 206 representatives of foreign media were involved in monitoring the referendum.
It should be noted that the referendum was initiated by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and envisages the implementation of large-scale constitutional reforms in the country. According to the proposed draft, a large part of the Constitution’s text has been updated and new articles have been added.
The final results of the referendum will be officially announced after the vote count is completed.
