If a migrant has committed a crime in their home country, they will not be granted Russian citizenship or a residence permit (VNJ), APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
This is stated in a draft law prepared by Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The draft law states that when submitting an application for Russian citizenship or a residence permit, migrants will be required to provide a certificate confirming they have no criminal record. Foreign nationals will be required to obtain the relevant document in their home country.
The Interior Ministry’s draft law has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
