In Russia, it has been proposed to revoke citizenship for any intentional grave crime, said Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
He noted that such measures should be applied in cases of any intentional grave crime.
“We propose to significantly expand the scope of this list to include the commission of any intentional grave or particularly grave crime.”
According to Bastrykin, this is about Russian citizenship acquired later:
“The position of the Investigative Committee is that citizens who commit crimes lose their political and legal ties with the state, and therefore, in such a situation, retaining acquired citizenship undermines public trust,” he said.
Under current Russian legislation, the list of grounds for termination of citizenship includes terrorism-related crimes, as well as certain acts against public safety and sexual integrity, among others.
