Official Moscow has expressed its reaction to Armenia's refusal to allow Russian military journalist Dmitry Seleznyov to enter the country, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said at a briefing today that the organization she represents is paying attention to the ban on Seleznyov entering Armenia.
The current Armenian authorities came to power against the backdrop of a wave of freedom of speech, pluralism, transparency, and free expression of one's own opinion. Look at what all this has led to. The duration of the ban against Seleznyov, the fact that the journalist was accused of some crime in Armenia, and the lack of information about how he can hope for the lifting of this ban are alarming. It is well known that Dmitry Seleznyov was a reporter during the Karabakh conflict in 2020. But it is not clear what he did wrong there. We have asked the reason for the ban against Seleznyov through our embassy in Yerevan. We hope that this is not related to Seleznyov's journalistic activities," Zakharova noted.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that this step by official Yerevan does not correspond to the legal and democratic image of the Republic of Armenia.
Recall that Dmitry Seleznyov has visited Karabakh several times and worked as a war correspondent during the 2020 conflict.
It should also be noted that the “WarGonzo” project, funded by Armenian-origin media magnate Aram Gabrielyanov, was engaged in spreading significant disinformation about Azerbaijan during the Second Karabakh War.
During that period, the author of the channel, Semyon Pegov, was also sought by Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies. Aram Gabrielyanov himself was barred from entering Armenia several years ago and is listed as an “undesirable person” by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
