Armenia’s newly elected parliamentary speaker, Ruben Rubinyan, held a phone conversation with Chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, APA reports, citing the press service of the Armenian parliament.
The parties discussed interparliamentary cooperation between Armenia and Russia, emphasizing the importance of continuing parliamentary dialogue and cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
They also touched upon the current stage of bilateral relations between Armenia and Russia.
Ruben Rubinyan noted that the “unjustified restrictions imposed on the export of Armenian goods to the Russian market are a cause for concern” and stressed the importance of resolving the issue within the framework of the existing legal basis between the two countries and the regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The agenda of relations between Armenia and the European Union was also discussed. Rubinyan stated that, contrary to Russia’s expectations, a referendum in Armenia on joining the European Union would, in practice, only be possible after Armenia officially submits an application for membership and the process reaches an objective stage.
The parties reaffirmed their readiness to continue an open dialogue to further develop interparliamentary cooperation and strengthen mutual understanding on issues on the bilateral agenda.
