A protest is being held in front of the Armenian parliament building demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan through impeachment, APA reports, citing Armenian media.
Simultaneously, the parliament is discussing a draft statement submitted by the opposition “I Have Honor” faction.
The protesters have stated that Pashinyan must not be allowed to remain in power and should be replaced before the 2026 parliamentary elections. In their view, the most effective way to achieve this goal is through the impeachment procedure in parliament.
Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Alen Simonyan, stated that elections could be held even tomorrow, but there is no need for that.
At the same time, he pointed to the half-empty hall during the opposition’s hearings on the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister.
The session's moderator, Hayk Mamijanyan, had earlier stated that around 300 people wanted to participate in the discussions.
“But there are only 160 seats in the hall,” said the Speaker of Parliament. In this way, Simonyan indirectly cast doubt on the opposition’s activism and support.
