The memory of the martyrs of January 20 was commemorated in Moscow, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
A memorial event dedicated to the 36th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy was held at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia.
First, Ambassador Rahman Mustafayev, employees of the embassy, the Russian representation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Azerbaijani students studying in Russia, and representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Russia paid tribute to the memory of the martyrs by laying flowers in front of the bas-relief of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the embassy building and a banner dedicated to the memory of the victims of the January 20 tragedy.
The memory of the victims of the tragedy was commemorated with a minute of silence.
The event reported that on January 21, 1990, the Great Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev came to the building of the permanent representation of Azerbaijan in Moscow and held a press conference there, resolutely condemning the atrocities committed in Baku, calling them terrorism against the civilian population. He demanded a political and legal assessment of the incident and the accountability of the perpetrators of the tragedy, thereby demonstrating solidarity with the Azerbaijani people.
It was emphasized that it was thanks to Heydar Aliyev's initiative and determination that the January 20 tragedy was later given a political and legal assessment at the state level.
The participants of the event, who witnessed those bloody days, shared their memories of the January events of 1990.
