"The fact that Armenian airlines remain on the European Union's flight safety 'blacklist' is a purely technical issue and has nothing to do with political reasons," said EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, APA reports, citing Armenpress.
According to her, a number of necessary steps still need to be taken to remove Armenia from the EU's aviation safety list.
"This is a technical process, not a political one. The issue is within the competence of the European Union's Air Safety Committee. According to the Committee's assessment, Armenia needs to take certain steps, and we remain in contact with the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia. However, since all the required steps have not yet been taken, no decision has been made. I would like to emphasize once again that this is a technical process and not about political relations. We simply want to make sure that everything is in order in terms of safety. That is why we have offered special assistance within the framework of the "Twinning" process, which will be financed later. This is a special mechanism through which experts from our member states with experience in this field will support your government," Marta Kos emphasized.
