Nika Gilauri appointed Prime Minister of Georgia

Tbilisi – APA. The composition of new Georgian government was confirmed at the extraordinary meeting of the parliament. APA reports quoting Novosti-Gruziya agency that parliamentarians from opposition missed the meeting. 108 parliamentarians voted for and 8 against the new government. Georgia’s former Finance Minister Nika Gilauri was appointed Prime Minister. Kakha Baindurashvili will be new Finance Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister. The other ministers have preserved their positions. Two new ministries have been established. Dimitry Shashkin will lead Ministry of Penitentiary, Probation and Juridical Aid and Davit Tkeshelashvili has been appointed Regional Development and Infrastructure Minister.

Nika Gilauri is the fifth Prime Minister after Mikhail Saakashvili came to power in 2003. Nika Gilauri introduced the government’s program and said the main task would be creation of jobs.

Previous Prime Minister Grigol Mgaloblishvili resigned citing poor health on January 30.
