Extremist Group Members Get Sentences in Russia

Baku-APA. Eleven members of an organized criminal group, including a lecturer and three graduates of Russia’s Federal Guard Service (FSO) Academy, have received sentences from one to 16 years in prison for extremist activities in the central Russian city of Oryol, the Investigative Committee reported, APA reports quoting RIA Novosti.

A court established that the criminal group was organized by Major Viktor Lukonin and was united by extremist ideas. In December 2009 - August 2010, gang members set fire to seven police stations, two prosecutor’s offices, an Orthodox Christian chapel, cafes and a shop, and killed an Armenian national.

Group members, who called themselves “Oryol guerrillas,” also comprised mainly unemployed Oryol residents aged 17-24.

They also blew up a cafe, Indira, injuring four people; they distributed extremist literature, illegally produced explosive devices and stored firearms and ammunition, it has been established.
