Russia to develop Siberia for life, business: Putin

Baku-APA. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Tuesday said the government intends to improve living conditions and to do business in the country’s far eastern region of Siberia over the next decade, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

"Our goal is to form higher living standards beyond the Urals within a ten-year period, to make Siberia a really attractive place for people," Putin was quoted by the Russian media as saying.

The prime minister also said that Siberian region would require new industrialization to enable them to realize their competitive advantage.

He stressed it was important to develop Siberia as a commodity base, a platform for modern technologies and one of Russia’s tourist centers.

Recently the Russian government approved the development strategy of the region.

Siberia provides Russia with some 98 percent of diamonds, 90 percent of gas, 70 percent of oil, and 65 percent of coal.
