Bashkortostan’s parliament adopts law on guarantees given to outgoing president Murtaza Rahimov

Baku – APA. The parliament of Bashkortostan, Russia, adopted a law on personal, civil and financial guarantees given to the former presidents of the autonomous republic. According to APA, the law will secure pension coverage, security, social privileges and immunity of a former president. Meanwhile Bashkortostan’s president Murtaza Rahimov was expected to announce his resignation at the parliament, but he missed the session. Murtaza Rahimov has led Bashkortostan since 1993 and despite his criticism against the Russian federal government he could keep power in this period. Rahimov’s presidential authority expires in 2011 and two years ago he said he would resign. He began consultations with the federal authorities about the appointment of a new president to the republic.
