’Top militant’ killed in Dagestan

Baku-APA. The North Caucasus republic of Dagestan’s deputy interior minister says security forces have killed Dzhamaludin Dzhavatov, a top militant leader in the region, APA reports quoting presstv.ir website.

Colonel Magomed Ismailov, the region’s deputy interior minister, said Dzhavatov, the leader of the Karamakhin militant group, was killed on Saturday in a special operation, AFP reported.

"Dzhavatov was on the federal wanted list for a number of terrorist acts and attempts on the life of law enforcers," he said.

Also on Saturday, in the latest wave of violence, a local businessman was killed in Dagestan’s village of Chontoul in a bomb blast.

Elsewhere, a policeman was killed by a bomb explosion in the other Northern Caucasus volatile region of Ingushetia.

The battles between the pro-Kremlin authorities of Dagestan and the militants have so far claimed the lives of many police officers as well as civilians in the violence-stricken Northern Caucasus.
