Georgian opposition decides to hold uninterrupted protest actions and calls for civil disobedience

Joint emergency statement of opposition leaders was read at the protest action. The statement calls for civil disobedience. It is noted that half of the people participating in the action will soon surround Georgian Public Television and president’s residence. The protest action will also be held in those places. It is also noted that one of the leaders of Georgian opposition Levan Gachechiladze, leader of New Rights Party David Gamkrelidze, leader of Alliance for Georgia Irakli Alasania will be in front of the building of the Public Television and presidential residence. Moreover, protest action will begin in two other places of the capital.

The authors of the statement say that oppositionists will occupy the roads along the Kura River, through which President Mikhail Saakashvili passes, beginning from Kostava street of Tbilisi from 15.00 tomorrow and from Ketevan Tsamebuli street from 18.00. protest actions will also be organized outside Sport Complex and House of Pioneers in Tbilisi. Following this, a big protest action will organized outside the parliament.
The protest actions will reportedly continue unless President Mikhail Saakashvili resigns.

Gachechiladze said they would obey to someone. The opposition leader noted that if Saakashvili didn’t react to opposition calls, they would intensify the protest actions. He called on the people to hold peaceful and calm actions. He invited the people from the regions to the raly.

Leader of Movement for United Georgia Eka Beselia said they would use other methods if the President didn’t resign. Beselia said the people came from Shida-Kartli Region were not allowed to enter Tbilisi.

Leader of Republican Party Tina Khidasheli named the people killed by police during the demonstrations in Georgia.

Gerogy Khaindrava said “Mikhail Saakashvili feared that we would remove him from the office”.

Former chairman of the Georgian parliament, chairman of the Traditionalists Party Arkady Asatiani also addressed the rally participants.

Another former speaker of the Georgian parliament, leader of Democratic Movement - United Georgia Party Nino Burjanadze was hissed during her address to the people. Burjanadze said they would wait for president’s resignation. “I also love my country as you. I can debate with the authorities on TV”.
