Dow adds 0.14% while Nasdaq and S&P 500 fall

US stocks ended mixed yesterday as signs of increasingly sluggish growth in the United States and the rest of the world rattled investors, who are already unsettled about the outlook for consumer spending and corporate profits. The Dow Jones added 16 points to 11 533, while the Nasdaq Composite retreated 16 points to 2 334. The S & P 500 slipped three points to 1, 275.
Eurozone economic jitters weighed on Europe’s major markets. London’s FTSE 100 tumbled 121 points, or 2.2% to 5, 500. In Paris the CAC 40 plunged 92 points, or 2-percent, to 4 447, while Frankfurt’s DAX shed 51 points to 6 467.
Markets in the Asia-Pacific region are weaker this morning. In Tokyo the Nikkei tripped 112 points to 12 578. And in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng shaved off 155 points to 20 430, while Sydney’s ASX fell 75 points, or 1.5% to 4 985.
Platinum is trading at $1346 /oz and the spot price for Brent crude oil has edged up to $106.25 a barrel.
Euro was trading at $1.4487.
