Azerbaijani parliament ratifies 63 judges’ appointment

Ali Huseynov, Chairman of the Permanent Parliamentary Commission for Legal Policy and State System Establishment said according to the law judges must not have membership of any party. He said though Azerbaijan’s judge corps is formed, there are still problems in this field. Commission chairman stated that Court law Board is making efforts to eliminate these problems. Ali Huseynov said 63 judges will be appointed to Higher, Appeals, Economic courts, also Baku, Ganja, Sumgait, Ali Bayramli, Shaki courts of appeals. He added there are orders of removing from judge positions some judges of Higher, Economic and Appeal Courts.
Igbal Aghazada proposed to increase the number of judges granting them life term judgeship. MP Azay Guliyev said judge elections are held fairly. MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev said Court’s Board did not present judges properly. According to him some of the presented judges do not meet age standards. MP Panah Huseyn said judges are not independent. Panah Huseyn proposed to appoint judges for life term saying that it would be incentive for better activity. The judges were ratified in their posts after debates./APA/
