Baku-APA. Israeli police have arrested a border police officer over the fatal shooting of a Palestinian teenager in the occupied West Bank in May, a police spokesman said on Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Nuwara Salameh, along with another Palestinian, was killed during May 15 protests to commemorate Nakba Day (Day of Catastrophe), in which Palestinians were displaced amid the Israeli declaration of independence in 1948.
The officer was arrested on Tuesday by the Judea and Samaria ( Jewish name for the West Bank territories) police, spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said.
At the time of the incident, the Israeli military said its forces fired only rubber bullets, but Palestinian medics said the boys were killed by live ammunition.
A joint Palestinian-Israeli pathological examination was conducted in June and found a live ammunition bullet in Nuwara's backpack, according to the Ha'aretz daily.
The suspect is set to be brought to a remand hearing on Wednesday, according to the spokesman.
