Kyrgyz premier interrupts his vacation due to situation on border with Tajikistan

"The prime minister announced he was leaving for a brief four-day vacation on Tuesday morning," it said.

The situation in one of the areas of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border near Maiskaya began to heat up on Monday after Tajik citizens blocked the road to the cemetery of the Kyrgyz village of Koktash. In response its residents blocked the canal that supplies water to the Tajik village of Chorku. During the standoff the two sides began throwing stones at each other.

The conflict continued on Tuesday. According to various estimates, from 200 to 500 people are involved in it. Over the past 48 hours, six citizens of Tajikistan and eight residents of Kyrgyzstan have sustained injuries of varying severity.
