Baku-APAKazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev held a meeting with visiting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani Tuesday on closer economic ties, said the President's press office, APA reports quoting XInhua.

During private negotiations the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in economy, energy, infrastructure development, agriculture, as well as transport and transit.

Nazarbayev said Kazakhstan considers Iran as one of the most important partners, both in the world and in the Caspian region. He also expressed confidence that the Iranian nuclear issue will be resolved and contribute to the country's economic development.

The Kazakh President said Rouhani's visit as well as the Kazakh- Iranian business forum planned for the visit will provide an opportunity to bring bilateral economic cooperation to a new level.

"Despite a small decrease in trade between the two countries, the current rates of mutual economic cooperation are very optimistic," said Nazarbayev, who offered to open the Kazakh- Iranian trading house, in order to expand bilateral trade ties.

Iran is interested in developing economic relations with Kazakhstan, and the presence of representatives of private businesses in the Iranian delegation is the evidence, Rouhani said.
