Baku-APA. Clashes and militancy in Afghanistan have claimed 17 lives including police and militants and injured 12 others on Tuesday, officials said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Seven Taliban militants were killed and six others injured as clashes erupted in Norgul district of the eastern Kunar province on Tuesday, provincial police chief said.
"Locals made uprising against Taliban rebels in Nurgul district and clashed with militants Tuesday morning leaving seven rebels dead and six others injured," Abdul Habib Sayedkhili told reporters.
In the clash which erupted early morning and lasted for several hours, one Taliban fighter was captured alive, he added.
Taliban militants who have intensified their activities over the past two months are yet to make comment.
In a similar fighting between police and militants in the northern Takhar province, two local police were killed and three others injured, police spokesman in the province Abdul Khalil Asir said.
"A group of Taliban raided police checkpoints in Pul-e-Momin area of Khawjaghar district this morning and police returned fire killing several militants," Asir told reporters.
However, he didn't give an exact figure, but confirmed, "Two local police personnel were killed and three others injured."
Meanwhile, a suicide attack in Kabul Tuesday morning left five persons including three attackers and two guards of a private company dead and three civilians injured.
In another violent incident, three suicide bombers were killed in their blast before reaching their target in the southern Zabul province, provincial police chief Rogh Liwanai said.
