The Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) has implemented two projects named Qanun (“Law”) and Qamus (“Dictionary”), aimed at contributing to parliamentary diplomacy and strengthening language unity in the Turkic World, said the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States, Mehmet Süreyya Er, APA reports, citing TRT Haber.

According to him, these projects, which unite the Turkic World on a common digital platform, also aim to contribute to the formation of a shared memory.

These projects, prepared with the aim of strengthening language unity in the Turkic World, will support the harmonization of inter-parliamentary work activities, contribute to language accuracy in correspondence, document and law translations among various institutions of the Turkic World, as well as in scientific texts.

The “Qanun” project, prepared by TURKPA, brings together legal texts related to Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan in a digital environment and provides services to users in five languages. The system offers options in Turkish, Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, and English, allowing users to search, filter, annotate documents, and create personal work files.

The “Qanun” system provides users with functions such as search and filtration, data management, reader screen, annotation, document preparation, and comparative analysis.

The comparative dictionary in nine languages — the “Qamus” project — enables the comparative study of the vocabulary of Turkic languages. Covering Turkish, Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Turkmen, Bashkir, Tatar, and Uyghur languages, this digital dictionary is prepared based on scientifically supervised, reliable sources.

Integration with prestigious dictionaries that hold a special place in the Turkic World is also envisaged. For this purpose, the sources to be used are carefully selected and presented to the users of the “Qamus” system in a harmonized manner.

Within this framework, integration work has begun with the “Misalli Büyük Türkçe Sözlük” published by the “Kubbealtı Foundation” from Türkiye. Similar collaborations will be gradually implemented for other languages as well.

The “Qamus” project, which aims to strengthen language unity and promote unity and standardization in concepts and terminology, features a search system, multiple source support, reference indicators, source- and word-based filtration, word meaning, and indicator technical characteristics.
