Two dead, 8 houses burned in fighting between two families in DiyarbakÄ±r

Baku-APA. Two people were killed and eight houses burned to the ground in fighting between two families in a village in Ergani, a district in the southeastern province of DiyarbakÄ±r, officials said on Tuesday, APA reports quoting Todays Zaman.

The fight broke out over a financial dispute between the IÅŸÄ±k and UluÄŸbey families in the village of YukarÄ± Kuyular late on Monday night. The verbal quarrel soon turned into an all-out armed confrontation between the two families. Mehmet and Kemal UluÄŸbey were killed in the clash.

Following the shootout, the members of the IÅŸÄ±k family left the village for fear of their lives.

The remaining members of the UluÄŸbey family set eight houses of the IÅŸÄ±k family ablaze. Gendarmes rushed to the scene upon reports of an armed fight.

The security forces set up a blockade of the village and detained several members of the UluÄŸbey family. Firefighters worked for 10 hours to bring the fires in the houses under control.

Ergani District Governor Erdinç YÄ±lmaz said security measures have been taken and that everything is now under control in the village.

The gendarmerie is investigating the incident.
