Baku-APA. Turkish police on Thursday shot an abductor who had taken two hostages in Turkey's largest city Istanbul's central Fatih district after a six-hour standoff, APA reports.

The abductor was shot in the chest and taken to a local hospital, while the two female hostages were led to the police station for their testimony.

Daily News reported that the abductor, identified as Serkan K., intended to rob an apartment when he came across with the apartment's owners Isin Y. and Pinar Y., and took them as hostages.

A police team raided the apartment after they encircled the apartment and failed to convince the abductor, the report said.
