Tropical storm Wukong weakens, leaving 4 dead, 2 missing in Philippines

Baku-APA. Tropical storm Wukong (local name Quinta) is heading for Palawan island in western Philippines with weakening force, leaving four dead and two missing in the country, government agency said Thursday morning, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Among the four victims, three died when their house collapsed by a falling tree in Eastern Samar, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said in its 6 a.m. report.

A total of 13,520 people in 5 cities and 4 provinces were affected by the tropical storm. More than 6,000 people fled their homes and have so far settled in 18 evacuation centers, the NDRRMC said.

Wukong slowed down while approaching Coron island, Palawan, early Thursday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Due to its influence, downtown area of Legazpi city was submerged in flood water. Parts of Metro Manila also experienced light rain last night.

The Coast Guard said up to 7 a.m. Thursday, 9,286 persons were stranded at ports in Manila, Lucena, Calapan and Mamburao.
