Baku-APA. Jordan on Saturday expressed its strong condemnation of Israel's plans to build 3,000 housing units in the occupied lands in East Jerusalem, APA reports.
Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs Samih Maaytah said the decision contradicts with the international laws and legitimacy, stressing the country's rejection of this decision.
The Israeli decision undermines all efforts to attain peace in the Middle East, said Maaytah.
He added that the Israeli settlement activities are rejected and invalid and represent a negative and hostile act by the Israeli government towards the peace process.
Meanwhile, Maaytah urged the international community to immediately intervene to stop the Israeli unilateral measures.
Israel's security cabinet led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to permit the construction of 3,000 more housing units in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
In the past two months, the Israeli Housing Ministry announced tenders for nearly 2,000 new housing units in East Jerusalem and in West Bank settlements situated beyond the 1967 line -- meaning lands that were annexed by Israel during the 1967 war.
The peace process between the Israelis and the Palestinians came to a halt in 2010 over growing criticism of Israel's expansion of the West Bank settlements.
