Baku-APA. Jordan will not close its borders to the Syrians fleeing their war-torn country, the interior minister said Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"Jordan will not close its borders to the Syrian refugees for humanitarian reason," Hussein Majali said when meeting with William Lacy Swing, Director-General of International Organization for Migration.
Meanwhile, Majali urged the international community to help Jordan deal with the influx of Syrian refugees, state-run Petra news agency reported.
Swing voiced appreciation for Jordan's efforts in hosting Syrian refugees.
According to official figures, up to 500,000 Syrian refugees have taken shelter in Jordan since early 2011, when Syria's political unrest erupted.
