Baku-APA. Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Wednesday that the country's upcoming military drill in the Strait of Hormuz is aimed at protecting regional security, Press TV reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

On Monday, Navy Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, said that IRGC would stage a drill in the Strait of Hormuz by the end of the current Iranian year (ending March 20, 2013).

"Holding this drill is for more preparedness in order to better maintain regional security," Vahidi told reporters on Wednesday.

"New tactical measures and modern weapons will be tested in this drill," he was quoted as saying.

Iran has reiterated that the United States and the West cannot establish durable security in the region and that sustainable security could be established in the Persian Gulf through the cooperation of regional countries.
