Baku-APA. Bahrain authorities on Wednesday denied having used "toxic gas" to quell anti-government protests, and slammed a senior Iranian official for making such accusations, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Bahraini Foreign Ministry strongly condemned "false allegations " made by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian during a press conference in Moscow.

"The false claims aim to cover up the catastrophic situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran and the suffering of Iranian people under severe unfortunate and deteriorating political and economic conditions through interference in Bahrain's internal affairs," said the Bahraini Foreign Ministry.

The ministry said Bahrain refuses any form of interference in its domestic affairs, urging the Iranian government and officials to "stop such conduct and abide by the norms of diplomacy."

On April 25, Bahraini Foreign Ministry declared Iranian embassy 's second secretary Hujatullah Rahmani in Bahrain as persona non grata and ordered him to leave Bahrain within 72 hours for his links with a spy cell in Kuwait.

In August, Bahrain reinstated its ambassador to Iran, Rashed Al Dossary, who was recalled last year in protest of Iran's "meddling " in Bahrain's domestic affairs.
