Baku-APA. A school in Australia's New South Wales (NSW) has been evacuated after a student brought a hand grenade for "show and tell", the NSW Police said on Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Students from Hunter Christian School at Mayfield in Newcastle were taken to a nearby park on Wednesday morning, police said.

Specialists from the police and Australian Defense Force are examining the World War II "pineapple" model grenade believed to be inert.

Police have assured parents that all students are safe and accounted for.

The school principal called police on Wednesday morning when the year five student brought the World War II "pineapple" model grenade to the school.

"We have our bomb appraisal technicians from the police rescue squad locally here," Inspector Gerard Lawson told the Australia Broadcasting Corporation.

"We're just now waiting for munitions experts to come from Sydney to evaluate the risk of whether there is still potential for people to be hurt."
