Australian PM announces 4 bln AUD funding for Queensland's Bruce Highway

Baku-APA. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced that the Federal Government will invest 4 billion AU dollars (4.1 billion U.S. dollars) in upgrading Bruce Highway in Queensland, APA repotrs.

Gillard, who is visiting Rockhampton and Mackay on the eastern coast of Queensland, has told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) that the money would be delivered over 10 years to help make the road more reliable in the wet season.

"We've invested here before. People have seen the benefits of those works," she said.

"They will see the benefits of this new 4 billion AU dollar investment, which makes such a difference to a range of Queensland communities that rely on the Bruce Highway."

The State Government of Queensland has required the 4 billion dollar federal government funding to upgrade the state's Bruce Highway for months.

The 1,600 kilometer highway has been described as one of the worst in Australia.
