Baku-APA. The World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledged on Monday that Saudi Arabia has taken the novel coronavirus situation very seriously, Saudi Press Agency reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The increasing number of coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia indicates that the Arab country has strengthened the surveillance system, lab capacities and relevant network, said a statement released by the WHO.
The Saudi Health Ministry has initiated crucial public health actions, such as intensifying surveillance, launching investigations and important research, and putting control measures in place, the WHO noted.
The Saudi ministry has invited experts from the WHO to help assess the situation and to provide guidance and recommendations.
"At this time there are some things about this new disease we understand. However, I would like to remind everyone that this is a new infection and there are also many gaps in our knowledge that will inevitably take time to fill in," the WHO statement said.
The Saudi Health Ministry announced on Monday that 24 people have been diagnosed with the disease since September 2012, 15 of whom died.
