6 killed as suicide bomber hits political gathering in NW Pakistan

Baku-APA. At least six people were killed and a dozen of others including a political leader were injured when a suicide bomber ripped through a political gathering in Pakistan's northwest city of Peshawar on Saturday evening, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

According to the report by local Urdu TV channel Samaa, the incident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. local time when an unknown bomber detonated his explosive jacket inside the gathering of the provincial ruling Awami National Party (ANP) in Dhaki Nalabandi area of Peshawar, the capital city of the country's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Abdul Star Khan, Station House Officer of Police, who was guarding the senior political officials got killed in the attack, while prominent political leader Bashir Ahmad Bilour got seriously injured.

Police said that the blast occurred when the political leaders were seeing off the participants after the conclusion of the meeting.

The injured have been shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital where several of them were in critical condition.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police cordoned off the area and investigation into the incident has been launched.
