Baku-APA. A Syrian tanker loaded with diesel exploded in Lebanon's northern port city of Tripoli Friday, leaving six people injured, a security source confirmed to Xinhua.

One of the trucks, which were set ablaze late Thursday, exploded early Friday, injuring six people, among them three children, the source said.

Young men in the Bab el Tebbaneh Sunni neighborhood of Tripoli set ablaze three trucks and damaged four others with Syrian plate numbers in protest of transporting diesel to Syria.

The Lebanese side has forbidden Syrian trucks from entering Lebanon through the Arida border crossing checkpoint, for fear of being attacked again, according to the source.

The truck drivers are unharmed and have been released, the source said.

Syrian trucks have been carrying diesel and other fuel from Lebanon to Syria through the Masnaa eastern border crossing, and through the Arida northern border crossing.

Lebanese Sunni salafists, who support the Syrian rebellion against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, have been raging protests against the transportation of diesel from Lebanon to Syria, claiming that the fuel has been used to fill Syrian tanks and warplanes to carry out attacks against civilians.

Under international sanctions, Damascus is able to produce 65 percent of diesel to meet domestic needs, while the rest is transported from Lebanon and Iraq.
