Baku-APA. At least 15 supporters of a town mayor were killed in an ambush on Thursday night in the restive southern Philippine province of Lanao del Norte, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Quoting information from the military and police, state-run Radio Natin reported Mike Manamparan, mayor of Nunungan township, was wounded in the attack at around 6:30 p.m.
The radio reports said Manamparan was heading home along with his supporters from a campaign sortie when they were ambushed by heavily armed men.
The reports said 10 women and five men have been killed and several others wounded, including the town mayor who was rushed to the hospital, but a military source said only four were killed in the ambush.
Soldiers and police were sent to Nunungan to pursue the attackers.
