Magnitude 5.1 earthquake shakes northeastern Taiwan

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the coast of northeastern Taiwan at 11:40 a.m. Saturday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), CNA reports.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The epicenter of the temblor was located at sea, about 41.7 kilometers southeast of Yilan County Hall, at a depth of 27.8 km, according to the administration.

The earthquake's intensity was highest in Yilan County and Hualien County, where it measured 3 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale.

The quake also measured an intensity of 2 in New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Nantou County, Hsinchu County, Taipei and Changhua County, the CWA said.
