Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says he has exchanged messages with US envoy Steve Witkoff on restarting nuclear talks, telling the Americans that Tehran expects to be compensated for damage incurred in bombing attacks against its nuclear facilities ahead of negotiations, as it seeks “real confidence-building measures,” APA reports citing The Times of Israel.
“They should explain why they attacked us in the middle of… negotiations, and they have to ensure that they are not going to repeat that during future talks,” he is quoted telling the Financial Times from Tehran. “And they have to compensate the damage that they have done.”
Nonetheless, Araghchi sounds an upbeat note on the prospect of talks aimed at curbing the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.
