A 6.2 magnitude earthquake rocked Mongolia, according to a division of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, APA reports citing MBS.

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred Tuesday, February 11, at 6:02 p.m. UTC, in southwest Mongolia, announced the division of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences for Altai and Saian.

The intensity of the earthquake was 8.2 according to the MSK-64 scale (Medvedev, Sponheuer, Karnik).

The epicenter “was located at 45.22 degrees north latitude and 97.52 degrees east longitude”, 420 km northeast of the Chinese city of Hami, in the autonomous region of Xinjiang, says the Academy Sciences.

On January 19, an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck the autonomous region of Xinjiang, according to the United States Institute of Geological Studies (USGS).

In early January, the CGTN television channel announced that China intends to have the largest seismic warning system in the world by 2022, which would have more than 15,000 sensors installed throughout the country.
