Baku-APA. Three members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have been killed in a Turkish military operation against the group in Turkey’s southeastern province of Hakkari, APA reports quoting Press TV.

Many camps were also destroyed on Thursday as Turkish troops conducted a ground operation in the Beytussbep region of the province, Hurriyet newspaper reported.

On Wednesday, Turkish troops carried out an operation against PKK in northern Iraq.

A group of Turkish soldiers advanced five kilometers into the Iraqi territory to hunt down PKK members, and returned by aircraft after the operation.

Also on Wednesday, Turkish aircraft bombarded some areas surrounding the village of Maradu in the Qandil Mountain of northern Iraq, killing two civilians and injuring three others.

The past few months have seen some of the heaviest fighting between Turkish forces and PKK militants.

Turkey’s parliament last month extended by a year a mandate allowing the government to send troops into northern Iraq in pursuit of PKK members, despite objections from Baghdad officials.

PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region inside Turkey since the 1980s. The conflict has left tens of thousands of people dead.
