Baku-APA. Two Malaysian were arrested in Lebanon for allegedly linked to Al-Qaida, diplomats said Saturday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The two suspects, aged 21 and 28 respectively, were detained by the Lebanese authorities at the Berut International Airport, reported Bernama, Malaysia’s official news agency.

The duo were arrested several days ago for suspected links to Al-Qaida and would be brought to court on Monday, said Karuppannan, Malaysian Ambassador to Lebanon.

Lebanese media reported earlier this week that the two were nabbed by the army’s intelligence unit for allegedly being the members of the terrorists organization.

Investigations showed they were recruited by another Malaysian, and had tried to enter Syria via Turkey to carry out suicide attacks about two months ago, the reports said.

When failed to make way into Syria, the two decided to head to Lebanon to carry out terrorist attacks when their plot were discovered by the authorities.
