Baku-APA. Five people were killed and 32 others injured when a booby-trapped car went off in a restive suburb of the capital Damascus on Friday, the state-run SANA news agency reported.

The blast struck the Damascus’ suburb of Daf al-Shouk, which had been hit a couple of days ago with another booby-trapped car that killed four people and injured 11 others.

Meanwhile, the pro-government Sham FM radio said the blast caused the collapse of four buildings in the area and left scores of people either killed or injured.

The blast comes as the tenuous cease-fire brokered by international envoy Lakhdar Brahimi has supposedly went into effect earlier on Friday. However, the Syrian army has reported numerous violations allegedly carried out by the armed rebels and said it had responded the fire and confronted the assailants.

In a statement, the army’s general command accused the armed rebel fighters of disrespecting the cease-fire, recounting a number of violations and attacks on military bases in several Syrian cities.

The cease-fire has been pushed for by Brahimi, the UN-Arab League joint special envoy to Syria, and backed by the international community in the hope of starting a prelude for further pacification in the unrest-stricken country.
