Baku-APA. An Italian trooper has been killed and three others wounded in an attack in western Afghanistan, says the Italian Defense Ministry, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The trooper, identified as 24-year-old Tiziano Chierotti, was seriously wounded in a shooting in the town of Bakwa in the Farah province and later died of his injuries, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement added that the injuries suffered by the three other troopers were not life-threatening.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Afghan security officials put the blame on Taliban militants.

According to independent website icasualties.org, at least 363 foreign forces have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.

A total of 566 US-led forces died in Afghanistan in 2011. However, 2010 remains the deadliest year for foreign military casualties, recording a death toll of 711.

The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other members of the Western military alliance of NATO, undermining public support for the US-led war.
