Baku-APA. Crash investigators are continuing their inquiries into the cause of a fatal collision involving a fire truck and two cars on the F3 freeway in north of Sydney overnight, the New South Wales Police said Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

A 64-year-old woman was in a Toyota Corolla that collided with a fire truck and a Mazda M3 on the F3 freeway at Berowra at about 10:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, police said.

The woman was thrown from the passenger seat of the car during the collision and then run over by another oncoming vehicle.

She died at the scene, police said.

The driver of the Toyota, a 76-year-old man, believed to be the woman’s husband, was cut free from the wreckage and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment of head, internal and suspected spinal injuries.

He is believed to be in a critical condition, police said.

The drivers of the other vehicles were taken to hospital for minor injuries.

Police said the fire truck had responded to an earlier accident involving a semi-trailer and 18 cars on the F3 about two kilometers south of the Hawkesbury River Bridge.

The F3 was completely closed following the crash but has been reopened, police said.
