Baku-APA. The New Zealand government Friday congratulated Australia, along with four other nations, on their election to non-permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council, APA reports.

New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully said Australia had conducted a "well-fought campaign" and thoroughly deserved to win its seat.

Australia, together with Luxembourg, South Korea, Argentina and Rwanda, will take up their non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council at the start of next year for two years.

"New Zealand looks forward to working closely with Australia during its two-year tenure on the Security Council," McCully said in a statement.

"New Zealand’s bid for a seat in the 2015-2016 term is in good shape, and we will continue to campaign energetically."
