Massive bomb explosion rocks Syrian capital

Baku-APA. A powerful bomb has exploded in the Syrian capital of Damascus as foreign-backed insurgents continue attacks against civilians and government forces across the country, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The explosion occurred on Thursday when an insurgent on a motorbike detonated his explosives near Otham Bin Affan mosque in the capitalâ€™s southwestern area of Kafarsouseh.

No one has been hurt in the bomb attack, which took place a few hundred meters from the Syrian Interior Ministry building.

Many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in a prolonged turmoil that began in Syria in March 2011.

Damascus blames â€˜outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terroristsâ€™ for the unrest, saying the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country.

There are also reports that a very large number of the armed militants are foreign nationals, mostly from Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan.

Western states have been calling for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down. However, Russia and China strongly oppose the Western drive to oust Assad.
