Baku-APA. Syrian state media said the government troops cleansed Saturday a restive central town from armed insurgency, as activists reported the downing of a Syrian war jet in the northern province of Aleppo, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The state-run SANA news agency said the Hsaibieh town in al- Qusair area has been cleansed of armed groups on Saturday, adding that the clashes have resulted in a large number of casualties among the armed groups.

Separately, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain- based activist network, alleged that the armed rebels have downed a Syrian fighter jet in the western countryside of Aleppo.

The activists’ claims could not be verified with the absence of official media.

Earlier, the pro-government Sham FM radio said at least 111 armed men were killed Saturday during clashes with the Syrian troops in Aleppo and the coastal city of Latakia.

The latest incidents are parts of a series of violence that has engulfed Syria since last year and resulted in thousands of casualties from both the Syrian troops and civilians.
