Baku-APA. Five people were killed and three injured as an army helicopter crashed near an airport in Pakistan’s northern district of Skardu on Wednesday afternoon, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The killed include the pilot, co-pilot and three soldiers, said the local media.
The accident took place when an Mi-17 helicopter of the Pakistani army encountered some technical problem before it was about to land at the Skardu airport.
Engine of the helicopter caught fire before it crashed, said local media.
The helicopter, which is for transport purpose, crashed during a routine flight.
Both Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Pervez Ashraf have expressed condolences to the victims in the crash.
